Hallo Zusammen,
Ich muss einen Comment schreiben, ob Indien ein Modell für den American Dream darstellt.
Es wäre super, wenn mir den jemand korrigieren könnte. Ich habe die Frage auch auf uni-protokolle.de im Englisch Raum gestellt.
Hier mein Text:
The American historian James Truslow Adams defined in his book 'The Epic of America' the American Dream as 'the dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement. It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position.'
On the one hand India profits of globlization and the technological development. India belongs to the ten political economies of the world. Globalization had enabled every second of enployable people to become IT specialist.
On the other hand the poverty level is at about 200-250 Million people. More than 80 per cent of India's population has to live with $1 a day.
India is devided in the parts. The first one is a very rich upper class, the second one is the middle class and the third part includes very poor, seriously ill people.
In no other country hunger people more than in India.
The distinguished definition of Adams does not really fit. It is true that India gets better and richer as a result of globalization but there are too many negative aspects.
For example there are millions of illiterates. It does not exist a structured educational system.
Only 300 universitiys are available for more than a billion men.
Another problem is the unequality of men and women. Men are more eminently respectable than women. Many marriages are no love marriages. The fathers marries their daugthers, this happens in 70 to 85 per cent.
As we can see India's version of the American Dream is no perfect model for the [mm] 21^{st} [/mm] century.

("has to live" hört sich arg eingedeutscht ein, ginge aber auch)
